ABSTRACT

I was just in my early twenties when a playwright called Ian Dallas took me in hand to awake my consciousness for theatre. I am so grateful to him. He took me to see Suddenly Last Summer at the small Arts Theatre in the West End with Patricia Neal in the starring role of this most shocking and terrifying of Tennessee Williams’ plays. Patricia Neal played a woman who had witnessed the brutal murder of her poet husband. He was massacred by a group of starving street children, who then went on to cannibalise him! The poet’s over-adoring mother has her committed, since she cannot believe the story she has told and is considering having her lobotomised.
