ABSTRACT

For the past two decades, the process people go through when they leave prison and reenter the community has received sustained interest. In order for reentry programs to be successful, however, they must take into consideration all of the issues discussed throughout the text. The chapter begins by reviewing strategies that have been used in the past with limited success and offers a pathway forward by reviewing how the risk-need-responsivity framework can be used to improve the effectiveness of reentry services. The chapter concludes with a review of several recent policy initiatives.
