ABSTRACT

Much of the therapy effort involves an attempt to help the client move from a crisis or strong personal issue confronting her to a more positive state of mind. The therapist takes the essence of the statement made by the client and moves it from a negative frame to a more positive and hopeful one. The therapist promotes thoughts, awareness, and new insights into existing issues or concerns by encouraging the client to explore alternatives. By encouraging the client to think about things from his past that worked well, the client is provided a template for future behavior. The therapist picks out situations in group when two people seem to be aligned on a topic and then makes such things overt for the group to observe.
