ABSTRACT

The conclusion focusses on three cardinal points. It reiterates how different psychologists in their pursuit to examine human nature and interaction have extended the meanings of discourse. It also explains how each theorist has relied upon and/or proposed various concepts from psychology and psychoanalysis, broadening the nature of interdisciplinary research. Lastly, it introduces some more approaches and strands that focus on the links between language and psychology, such as Holland’s DEFT model in literature, Culpeper’s research on characterisation in literary texts (using concepts from social psychology), Tenbrink’s cognitive discourse analysis and upcoming research trends on language, power and psychoanalysis through situated interaction in psychotherapy.
