ABSTRACT

It is important to use knowledge of the project’s expected success criteria to determine which deliverables are needed. Only when these deliverables have been identified and described is it possible to develop a plan which shows how time and money will be spent. Where a project has chosen to develop its products or services according to an agile approach, quality may be delivered incrementally. In either case, product-based planning is a commonly used technique to define the scope of the project in terms of its deliverables, to show them in a sequence determined by their dependence on each other and to describe each one fully. It can be used to involve the entire team in the process, encouraging commitment to the emerging plan, and can engage the Project Steering Group in discussions about how the project is to be delivered.
