ABSTRACT

The search for international criminal justice through international criminal law has come a long way; yet, the whole idea of international criminal justice found it very difficult to gain traction or receive a universal or global approbation by both the international jurists and even the politicians. An international criminal law is a radical departure from traditional international law to the extent that it directly deals with individuals rather than through the intermediary of states. In fact, some crimes like money laundering and drug trafficking that are particularly liable to ideological contamination are also only “international crimes” by virtue of the universal jurisdiction that attaches to them. In addition to terrorism, there are also drug trafficking and money laundering offences that though international crimes are “non-International Criminal Court crimes”; or, indeed, crimes before any other international criminal court or tribunal be it ad hoc or hybrid.
