ABSTRACT

Supply chain risk management (SCRM) focuses on developing new approaches for the management of disruptions. The field of SCRM has originated from the idea of Enterprise Risk Management, the paradigm for managing the portfolio of risks that threaten organizations. SCRM starts from the identification and computation of probable risks and their possible impact on operations in the supply process. Empirically grounded research is needed for setting practicable managerial guidelines for supply chain risk-related problems. Risk identification is an important first step in any risk management effort. The systematic development of the framework was achieved beginning with a standard risk management process. Supply chain structures are complex networks of different players established with core objectives to minimize the costs, maximize the value and explore new markets through effectively managed relationships among members. SCRM could thus be viewed as a strategic-management activity given that it can affect the operational, market and financial performance of firms.
