ABSTRACT

We are in the trust business and when the people that request our services do not trust the process, or individual practitioners, due to unethical behavior, then the whole field potentially suffers. So, in this chapter we explore the various ethical frameworks that apply to the various core competencies represented on threat management teams and discuss some practical ethical problems that can arise in managing these types of cases. Even though we are dealing with the prevention of violence, the ends do not justify unethical means, and if we use unethical means, it not only leads to mistrust, it also can lead to escalation of risk for violence.
