ABSTRACT
This chapter analyses the impact of the colonial-capitalist interaction in the modern university system. Specifically, the author highlights the two main struggles that have marked the university in the last decades: the social struggles for the right to university education, which have undermined the legitimacy of the university itself, and the increasing global pressure for the university to submit to the criteria of relevance and effectiveness of global capitalism.
