ABSTRACT

Chapter 11 discusses the social and economic inequalities that are growing in the city. With the current economic system, the rich are becoming richer; a new breed of millionaires is being created, and the poor are becoming poorer. In all this, the public employees and the middle class are being squeezed and feeling the heat of the increasing cost of living. Therefore, the chapter follows experiences of a few families to understand the extent of the social and economic inequalities. Anchoring on some economic theories, the chapter suggests wealth distribution strategies that can narrow the economic and social inequalities.
