ABSTRACT

A factor of more immediate concern is to determine the extent to which a value can be placed on meteorological information that is made available to, and used by, all entrepreneurs of weather-sensitive activities. The recognition and evaluation of the atmosphere as a resource raises many complex economic, social and institutional problems, and as far as is known, no published comprehensive study on the effect of weather on any regional or national economy is as yet available. It is well known that many sectors of the economy are significantly affected by weather conditions. During the 1960’s, however, there were increasing demands for improved techniques for measuring the impacts of weather and climate on economic activities. Little is known, however, about the importance of weather-sensitive activities in any regional or national output.
