ABSTRACT

Weather and climate information constitute a number of separate items including the weather existing at the present moment, the weather and the climate that is expected at a specified time in the future, and an analysis and interpretation of the records of the weather and the climate that occurred in the past. Attempts to find associations between nationwide economic and weather/climate data present many problems. Few countries produce and market commodity-weighted weather and climate indices. The presentation of weather and climate information is a highly specialized and important form of communication. The number of decision-makers interested in weather and climate information varies considerably. An important aspect of the weather and climate sensitivity of various sectors of an economy is the actual, realized, or potential value of information. Several national attempts have been made to place a dollar value on weather and climate information including weather forecasts.
