ABSTRACT

The distribution of species, the nature of ecosystems and the effect of man on the genetics of organisms, as well as his role in creating new ecosystems, are all part of the contents. Every ecosystem has its carrying capacity for each species. The world ecosystem must have a carrying capacity for the human species too. Just as important, if not more so, than intellectual traditions, is the status of plants and animals in the real world outside our schools and colleges. It is apparent from what we see about us and from what we read that there are different kinds of relationship between man and the biota of the world. So the Earth is perhaps like a large nature reserve in one way: it is necessary to have a purpose built into the first paragraph of the management plan.
