ABSTRACT
In this chapter, the authors would like to provide an informative account of the China–US trade war, an insightful explanation of its causes, and an in-depth assessment of its impacts. The authors aim to deal with this crucial topic in a timely and comprehensive manner, combining reliable “storytelling”, rigorous analyses and a reader-friendly way of presentation. This chapter attempts to fill the gap. It provides the fullest and most engaging account available of the China–US trade war as of early 2020. The research target of the book is a very recent phenomenon, which has been rapidly unfolding and constantly evolving. Unfortunately, both other factors and the US demand are not possible to be reflected in the game modelling. Therefore, cautions are needed for reaching a general conclusion based on such a modelling, and a more qualitative analysis is needed regarding the strategic dimension and interactive nature of the trade war.
