ABSTRACT

Weeds, insects, diseases, nematodes, rodents, birds and animals have been called “pests” when they cause an economic loss or create health and esthetic problems. Synthetic pesticides developed in World War II started keeping pests under control and increasing food production that brought about a higher standard of living. However, adverse environmental effects began to appear in some cases. The interaction between these two forces is bringing a healthy change in pest control strategies. This review of the pest management literature is from a collection development point of view, and an attempt has been made to present a balanced picture of growth and sound environment literature.
