ABSTRACT

Zero-fossil energy development (ZED) life describes a set of tools that in an ideal world would be used together to support each other. Organic agriculture should be an integral part of the overall ZED approach, increasing the quality of life for ordinary people and ensuring a stable and peaceful society. The complex buildings in historic urban centres that attract wealthy residents cannot be easily adapted for new technologies or harvesting renewable energy. One solution could be to create linear shelters over the only open space commonly available–the road or the car park. These shelters would constitute a new type of urban arcade, comfortably shaded with dappled daylight and open sides for unrestricted airflow and access. ZED factory believes that advanced centralised composting within the street system is a cheap and practical scheme that would answer one of the main problems relating to the slums and favelas that surround many cities in the developing world.
