ABSTRACT

The Behaviour Journal is a shared journey between the writer and the behavioural consultant or mentor. The Behaviour Journal enables the teaching trainees’ reflective development by giving them control of their own learning journey. Writers of the Behaviour Journal show the Piagetian structuring and restructuring of knowledge as they reflect and learn and build action on their previous knowledge. The Behaviour Journal evidences the trainees’ own development in a particular and focused manner. The Behaviour Journal is not exclusively reflective, but also records planned actions taken by the trainees to support the learning behaviour of pupils and the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of those actions which, it is hoped, are used consistently over time for full effect. The teacher trainees are given a more focused approach to start their Behaviour Journal by looking at their own early experiences in receiving and learning about behavioural management in both home and school.
