ABSTRACT

The concluding chapter of this book discusses the creative role and symbolic resonance of myths, stories, dreams and art in evolving worldviews and social change movements which are responsive to climate crisis and conducive to the development of ecological consciousness. There is a retelling of the ancient underworld myth of Inanna and Erishkegal which opens up a discussion about the initiatory nature of loss and death in collective rites of passage which dismantle exceptionalist conceptions of a human/nature divide. Ethics too must evolve to respond to climate crisis and ecological consciousness in ways that can face into what is, rather than what is convenient, desirable or ideal. The chapter finishes with a conversation about building resilience for survival and visions for transformation through an understanding and appreciating of the strengths of diversity in all communities on Earth.
