ABSTRACT

Osprey Quay, Portland, is a developer-led project made up of 77 houses, comprising two, three and four-bedroom homes. The scheme has won 11 awards. In the depths of the recession, ZeroC bought the site and planned to build houses in three phases. Officers Field is an interesting, sloping site, which is very prominent in Portland as you approach the tied-island over Chesil Beach. Despite the beauty of its natural surroundings, Portland itself is blighted by cheap housing and a lack of identity. The houses sit proudly in their prominent position as you enter Portland, and they really are an asset to the island. The residents also spoke about the houses ‘lifting the general feel of the island’. Most residents found energy costs cheaper, although there seemed to be some dispute initially. Similar to Derwenthorpe, residents have to pay a maintenance charge for the biomass on top of what they actually use.
