ABSTRACT

Many clients have focused more closely on the operational aspects of their buildings, particularly those who commission buildings on a regular and serial basis and certainly those who operate and maintain their own buildings. In many instances, these clients will have full-time facilities management (FM) teams, who understand the operational and maintenance requirements of their buildings. The Handover Strategy is of equal importance to an FM team, as the design data that is handed over at the end of Stage 5 is increasingly being incorporated into computer-aided facilities management and asset management software systems, to be used when the building is handed over and becomes operational. In the future, Project Outcomes will become more crucial as clients frame them in ways that allow them to be incorporated into the Building Contract. A Post-occupancy Evaluation is a systematic and rigorous evaluation of how a building is performing in use.
