ABSTRACT

The architect has a crucial role at Stage 2, and from a design perspective Stage 2 is the most important project stage. Stage 2 is a crucial stage for the lead designer. A Concept Design that meets the Initial Project Brief must be developed by the architect and this design must be presented and accepted by the client and other stakeholders. An inspiring Concept Design can motivate the project team, but it will only act as a good springboard into Stage 3 if the lead designer has successfully directed and managed the incorporation of strategic coordination issues. Some architects may require specific advice in the early stages to assist the development of the Concept Design. The Concept Design acts as a bridge between the client’s brief, the planning process, the site and the architect’s vision, and sows the seeds for the other design stages that will be essential before construction commences.
