ABSTRACT

This chapter covers managing the planning consent during construction, identifying responsibilities for releasing conditions and complying with others that govern how the work is to be carried out. The project lead has to be aware that any amendments made to the scheme that affect the approved scheme will have to be approved by the planning authority and applications made for material and non-material amendments. Without planning approval for the amendment, construction work can only continue up until the point that the change is to be implemented. There is, therefore, the potential for delay to the Project Programme, and the associated costs that can arise, if there is insufficient notice of the need for an amendment, the application for the amendment is delayed or the decision process is prolonged. There are three types of amendment: material, minor material and non-material.
