ABSTRACT

The principles of collaborative working are embedded in Gordon Ryder’s observation, an important and constant factor in our practice ethos since the 1960s, when pioneers Ryder and Peter Yates created an architectural team with in-house structural and environmental designers as a multidisciplinary practice. In the collaborative project-working organisation there are two key leadership roles providing this continuity: project director and project architect. A significant success factor in the design process is clear and efficient project management, often referred to as lead consultant. Project organisational diagram illustrates the main review points related to the Plan of Work, together with the proportion of concept and technical resource at each stage. Encourage younger team members to present and everyone to contribute. Learn – allow time for meaningful feedback and consolidation at the end of each review.
