ABSTRACT

Some believe the world of digital transformation will negate the need for professional teams. However, according to the author, technology is a tool and an enabler but it is not the master. In the author's experience, commissioning a multidisciplinary team within a single organisation does not automatically guarantee better results than by appointing consultants from different businesses. There is a benefit in having teams adopting consistent systems, software and communications. Most projects end up under the control of a single party. The subsequent success of the team will depend on the contractor’s ability to bring on board the right people at the right time, who understand the client’s critical business needs, design aspirations, budget and time constraints and then adopt the relevant methodologies to deliver. The simplest way to optimise working across all disciplines is to acknowledge that everyone has the right to enter each other’s province, to better understand, challenge, propose and debate ideas.
