Landscape architecture has so many facets that there should be a rewarding option for most of those who take up the profession. Working in a field that architects enjoy means they are likely to come across as authentic, able to support their design decisions to their client and outside parties. The construction sector has a number of recognised standards that can be applied to projects, including those worked on by landscape architects. A project team made up of people with similar values, such as matching expectations of acceptable working hours or response times to emails, can reduce conflict within a project team. In December 2016 the Australian Sex Discrimination Commissioner and University of New South Wales released the findings of their study into gender inequality in construction. The report, the result of 2 years’ work including 61 interviews and work-shadowing 44 construction professionals, showed that both men and women fare badly because of existing working practice.
