ABSTRACT

The amount of unpaid, upfront work required to bid for projects can vary substantially, so it is worth reviewing the procurement option the client has chosen before deciding to submit a bid or fee quote. Detailed recording of the time taken to complete past bids provides a useful reference when deciding whether to bid for similar work. Time-recording software is often included as part of business accounting software, or practices can use web-browser-based software that links to other systems such as project management or capacity forecasting tools. Good communication within the project team, such as using a Common Data Environment, a digital location for storing, managing and distributing information, can help track decisions, provide a single source of information and ensure that all involved know the status of all outstanding issues. A frustration for landscape architects can be the limited scope they are given within a project team.
