ABSTRACT

VAVASOUR, who had passed great part of his night over a bottle, was not, however, at all more disposed to sleep towards morning than if he had been in bed, but at half after seven o’clock he sent the house maida to know if Miss De Mornay was up, and, if she was, directed the servant to give his compliments to her, and let her know that he should take it as a favour if she would allow him to speak to her for a few moments before her other friends were assembled.
