ABSTRACT

THE next morning at breakfast, Colonel Cecil, who had been on a visit to Mrs. Halesworth, asked, in a gay manner, how the preceding day had passed. ‘Halesworth,’ said he ‘will be in town to-morrow, and we will have a council called to consider how we shall pass the ensuing week, for, as his mother is so much better, he now gives all uneasiness to the winds. I think his presence begins to be necessary to enliven us a little, for all of you seem mighty grave.’
