My affection for my faithful Chance was commended in the warmest terms by my amiable tutor. As a domestic animal the dog has ever been my favourite; and it has never been a matter of surprise to me, that those creatures, whose sagacity frequently approaches to reason, have been mentioned by the most celebrated writers of antiquity.
