ABSTRACT

On our arrival at the door, Lord Kencarth sent in his name, with his request to see the Duke immediately. We were ushered into the saloon, where we found his Grace in close conversation with Doctor Pimpernel, who, notwithstanding our speed, had reached the Duke’s before us. My pupil desired to know whether the intelligence conveyed to him by the Doctor was true: and requested that his Grace would give him such incontestible proofs of his marriage as should authorize the payment of the sum lost.
