ABSTRACT

Published in PW II, pp. 95–106. For De Quincey’s article ‘Cicero’, see Vol. 13, pp. 159–88. It appeared in Blackwood’s in July 1842. If the present text represents discarded draft material from that article, it would probably have been written around the beginning of 1842, when De Quincey was promising the article to Robert Blackwood. It is possible that the manuscript ‘Mora Alexandrina’ (Vol. 20, pp. 339–41) was originally part of the same material.
