ABSTRACT
This chapter deals with the evolution of canon law in terms of forced conversion and religious warfare. The forced conversion was justified by the Wendish political and religious apostasy. Therefore the papacy and the canonists adapted their discourse in line with the political realities in the Baltic during the twelfth century.
