ABSTRACT

This chapter covers the fact that along with the development of the regular units of the FAR, there were also important improvements in structure, tactics and methods of the troops confronting and fighting the armed counterrevolutionary bands. This allowed the realization, throughout 1963, of a powerful campaign against the counterrevolutionary armed groups that operated and ravaged the rural population in different areas of the country with their criminal and terrorist acts. The chapter also covers the tactics and methods for combating these bands, both in theory as well as in the field. The chapter also discusses the organization of these bands and their support from the U.S., as well as their support among wealthy Cuban landowners.
