ABSTRACT

Producers tend to have a certain way of producing films. They have a network of colleagues to make things happen. They have a repertoire of skills, a methodology and a plan that they normally duplicate no matter the film. The talent-oriented producer is last because it’s probably the least important although most people mistakenly think it’s the most important person. The funding producer should be able to write pay or play offers in such a way that filmmakers can get actors to say “yes” or “no.” The exact job of the producer is certainly “fuzzy.” Even though there are no firm guidelines on what “producer” means, the guidelines are, well, firm-er for the role producer as opposed to executive producer or associate producer. As a general rule, the executive producer title is for people that had something to do with the funding of the film.
