ABSTRACT

This chapter is an attempt to examine the role of diplomacy in India’s fight against terrorism over the last few years. Globalisation; the speedier movement of people, things and money due to advances in telecommunications and transportation; and the emergence of transnational terrorism make innovations in diplomacy indispensable. Consequently, contemporary diplomatic practices represent a complex set of skills and institutional and extra-institutional international relations not just confined to formal communication between representatives of the governments. This diplomacy lays an increasing emphasis on multilateral relations as opposed to bilateral relations, the increasing role of international organisations as opposed to strictly inter-state negotiations.
