Check-In with the SIS AC Symbol (Bar Code): Implementation and Uses for Libraries, Publishers and Automation Vendors

Tina Feick, Chair of SISAC and Serials Specialist for Blackwell Periodicals Division, Oxford, England, opened the session with a brief overview of the activities and purposes of the Serials Industry Systems Advisory Committee (SISAC). SISAC, formed in 1982, has worked to create a standardized identification code for serials. The standard is known as (SICI), the Serial Item and Contribution Identifier, and is encoded in a bar code (the SISAC symbol) which publishers can print on the cover of their journals.
