ABSTRACT

Serving users who rely heavily on serial literature, health sciences libraries constantly face decisions about what to add and what to cut from their serials collections. Lynn M. Fortney, EBSCO Subscription Services, Biomedical Division Marketing Manager, and Judith Rieke, University of North Dakota, Special Projects Librarian, identified and discussed the key criteria that health sciences libraries traditionally consider when assessing their collections to make new purchase or cancellation decisions. Although, in general, these criteria are often the same for the two processes, the importance of each factor may vary significantly from library to library, depending on collection development policies and methods.
