ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with Biblical provisions, concerning gender relations. One of the provisions says that a Hebrew slave is bought and he has to serve for six years; but in the seventh year, he shall go free, without paying anything; if he came alone, he has to go free alone; but if he had a wife when he came, she has to go with him; if his master gave him a wife and she bore him sons or daughters, then the woman and her children shall belong to her master, and only the man shall go free. Another provision says that anyone who beats his/her father or mother is to be put to death and anyone who curses his/her father or mother is to be put to death.
