ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the book. What one believes as a teacher is the reality of his/her instruction. Everything one does as a teacher stems from what he/she values most. If the teacher controls the mood and energy of the class, what feeling should one have to prepare students to be college- and career-ready when they leave the classroom. There could be a sense of urgency. To get an idea of what urgency feels like, the chapter highlights the story about the would-be student of a great teacher. Often the kind of urgency we want in our students is intrinsic to the learning activity itself. Drawing out this powerful urgency means that our learning tasks have to be important and must require immediate attention. In order for learning activities to be most effective, the activities have to be designed to be part of a learning system in which all the parts work together.
