5.1 The method of compilation will vary according to the following factors:-
Type of union catalogue (general; subject; newspaper; historical bibliography; etc.).
Nature of compiler (individual; institution; library association; local, regional or national bibliographic agency; bibliographic utility; transmission of data by direct magnetic tape delivery or record transfer from one data base to another; replication of an existing union catalogue).
Area of contribution (single institution; group of independent libraries on a local, regional, national or international basis).
Resources available (funds; personnel; data bases; computer equipment and programmes).
Display medium (print; microform; CRT terminal).
