ABSTRACT

This chapter summarizes the structure of this book, including problems that minor foreign language educators often encounter and procedures to help overcome these obstacles and enhance and grow university-level language programs. The utmost useful and imperative strategy the author focuses on throughout this book is student motivation, specifically intrinsic motivation, which needs to be fostered in order to confront language learning difficulties and keep learners from quitting or failing until they have achieved their goals. Furthermore, salient features which were implemented into the Japanese program at UNC Charlotte to lead much success are recommended to other teachers of minor foreign languages.
