ABSTRACT

The Internet of Things (IoT) can be seen as an integration of numerous technologies that act as enablers for the development of this emerging paradigm. In order to understand the key role of these technologies, different IoT architectural frameworks have been proposed in the literature by various organizations and research communities to enlighten their functioning. Moreover, the IoT is continuously evolving and can provide significant benefits to businesses by creating value for the target consumers. However, to guide them in order to generate revenue, business models play a crucial role that captures the interactions between IoT devices and stakeholders. The aim of this chapter is to discuss the architectural framework of the IoT and its various aspects including different entities, functionalities, and technologies at each layer. In addition, it presents different business models existing in the field including their components that serve as building blocks, challenges in developing these models, along with the role of different technological perspectives in framing these models.
