ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book discusses the formation of two different kinds of propaganda ideas and a series of controversies surrounding them. When examining the changes of the idea of propaganda in the 20th century, it focuses on the issue of the legitimacy of propaganda. The revelation of human nature by psychoanalysts and social psychologists in the early 20th century was a revolution in the idea of propaganda. During the rationalization process of propaganda, the issue of communication ethics is resolved by institutional arrangement. Two types of knowledge have been produced around propaganda: one is about the legitimacy of propaganda, and the other is about propaganda techniques. The review of the idea of propaganda in this book is not only out of an interest in history, but also is an effective way of self-reflection and self-education of the public under the influence of new propaganda.
