ABSTRACT
This chapter unfolds how the demographic pattern was gradually woven to add social meaning to a village. The chapter examines the socio-anthropological and historical meanings of village community; the progressive incorporation of various ethnic and non-ethnic groups; the forging of social relations through the process of fusion and fission; and the presence of unity and difference in village life.
