ABSTRACT
Chapter 7 conceptualises landscape change, exploring the gradual conversion of the natural landscape into a cultural domain. It also focuses on the content of the transformation of the physical landscape – quantifying the receding of natural space. Furthermore, the chapter discusses the change in flora and fauna, and the remaking of the social ecology, via both quantitative and qualitative analysis. Adivasi subalternisation, transplantation of an exogenous culture and reinvention of Adivasi identity are also discussed.
