Beginning the Design Process
After the text analysis phase, a costume designer will focus on initial paperwork and meeting with the time. Paperwork must be drafted and organized. The costume plot documents transitions and is used as a reference for the design, the production, and the budget.
This paperwork, along with the designer’s notes from the script reading, is brought to the first team meeting. There, the director and the designers decide on a show’s concept. Once a consensus is reached, the designer will then conduct research and begin preliminary sketches and present them to the director for approval.
After a few rounds of discussions and meetings, the designer next begins the rendering process.
