ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a detailed guide on how to develop a plan to transition projects to successful operations and maintenance processes. The best Project Managers (PMs) have excellent personalities and can successfully network with stakeholders throughout an organization. If PMs were expected to provide support on old projects, no matter how limited, each new application they implement would start to cut into their total available time. Once the project is complete and the team and PM have disbanded, it’s clear that there should still be someone who can manage the day-to-day operations of the application. Before a PM can consider transitioning an application from project phase to support phase, there obviously must be some support process already in place. Transitioning projects can be hard, especially if they had prolonged durations with effective project team members and strong project management.
