ABSTRACT

Planning and controlling are the essence of sound management of acquisitions funding. The goals are obtaining the desired funding and using whatever is received in the most effective manner. Success requires varying parts of science and art, inspiration and perspiration, at all stages, whether it be establishing a structure, determining needs, making a presentation or controlling the final budget. There is no one right way at any stage. Much depends on the institutional environment. The successful manager, at any level, will be sensitive to that environment and flexible enough to work effectively within it.
