ABSTRACT
A Search Strategy Outline (SSO) is proposed to help occasional users such as medical residents conduct efficient online searches. The SSO is in outline form, covering all recurring steps from LOGON to LOGOFF. A SSO can be custom-designed for a specific professional group/database(s) combination and further adapted for the individual user’s unique searching needs. Two SSOs are presented: one for residents searching for diagnostic and treatment information, and a second for medical educators searching the literature for program development and evaluation purposes.
