ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the relationship between academic worldviews and their approach to teaching-related work. It discusses the difference between positivist and interpretivist views, approaches to student independence, views on education as a right or privilege, organisational culture and systems, and academic arrogance. It highlights common justifications provided about why change can’t be made, focusing on lack of time, fear, lack of control, and lack of confidence and knowledge. It asks readers to consider their worldview and excuses they may have used in the past.
